Frequently Asked Questions

Which wedding events can I attend?

We wish we could have accommodated everyone at every event, but due to capacity constraints we can only accept the listed guests at each event. The invites and RSVP form will confirm the listed guest names. We appreciate your understanding and are thankful for your love and support.

When do I RSVP by?

Please RSVP as soon as possible, as we need to give our venues and vendors the final headcount. The latest we can accept a response is June 7th, however we'd appreciate it if you do so much sooner. If we do not hear back before June 7th we will not be able to accept you at our events.

Can I bring additional guests?

No. We cannot accommodate additional guests. Due to limited capacity, we can only allow the people named on your invitation. The RSVP form will also confirm the listed guest names.

Can I bring kids?

All wedding events will be exclusively adult only to ensure everyone can fully relax and savor the moment. Listed kids are invited but we will provide a Kids Room with babysitters for their entertainment during specific events. We believe this will be more enjoyable for all parties. We will also arrange for additional baby sitters to be available at the hotel by request. For further information on the kids room or to arrange babysitting, please contact wedding@jessandakhi.com. Outside of this, we're grateful for your proactive planning and understanding as you arrange for childcare, allowing you to join us in celebrating this special occasion without your little ones present.

What hotel should I stay in?

If you are invited to and attending any Thursday or Friday events, please book The Drake for your entire stay using our room block. If you are only joining us on Saturday you can still choose The Drake or the Hilton Chicago. You can find both links here.

Do you have a gift registry?

Gifts are, of course, not necessary. If you do wish to celebrate with a gift, we will have a designated area at each event for your convenience and to ensure your gift is received. You can also use our online portal here. We kindly thank you for not bringing boxed gifts.

Where can I get appropriate outfits?

Please refer to the Dress Code page for links to buy online or in Chicago. We think dressing up is a huge element in the excitement and energy of the events so we request you follow the dress code.

Can I get help with my saree/lehenga?

Embracing Indian attire is an art form in itself. To make your experience effortless and enjoyable, we're delighted to offer a saree-tying service at The Drake for anyone needing assistance. As the wedding approaches, we'll send you a link to select a convenient time slot with our skilled saree tiers. We look forward to ensuring you look and feel your best for our special day.

Where should I park?

The most convenient option for those staying at The Drake would be the overnight valet at $75/night. There are even better options available nearby on SpotHero. For those driving in and out, the most convenient will be using The Drake rate at the 900 N Michigan Shops parking garage or The Drake valet. The Hilton Valet and SpotHero will be your best options for those attending Saturday only.

Is there transport from church to the reception?

The fastest option would be to use Uber or Lyft; a 25 minute drive. There will be an Uber code provided for your convenience.

What time will events end?

Thursday night's events will conclude around 11 p.m. Friday's events will conclude around 9:30 p.m. There is an optional Qawwali performance after dinner on Friday in the same room where we have dinner. The performance will end around 11:00 p.m. Saturday's events will conclude around 1 a.m.

Will events be outdoor or indoor?

The Baraat before the Shaadi will be outdoors.

What is weather like in July in chicago?

Chicago's summers are beautiful. In late July, temperatures average from the upper 70s to mid-80s (around 25-30°C). It can be a little hot, so remember to pack sunscreen, use antiperspirant, and stay hydrated. If you're planning to join us for the Baraat and have concerns about warmer temperatures, please keep this in mind before RSVP'ing. Although it's shorter than an hour, we want to ensure everyone's comfort and will have fans, water, juices, and outdoor snacks prepared for your enjoyment.

Can I request songs from the DJ?

We have a playlist of meaningful songs from across the ten years of our relationship. Please do not request songs, as this would mean a sentimental song may not get played.

Can we perform the ‘MUH Meetha karna’ (sweet distribution) tradition during the wedding festivities?

To maintain the health and safety of all guests, especially the elderly or the bride and groom, before the reception and honeymoon, we kindly request that people use untouched cutlery if sharing sweets is desired. This precaution helps prevent the spread of germs and ensures everyone has a safe and enjoyable celebration. We appreciate your cooperation in prioritizing the well-being of all attendees, fostering an atmosphere of care and consideration throughout our festivities.

Will there be assigned seating and how will guests find their assigned seats?

For our wedding weekend, personalized seating arrangements will be meticulously arranged to ensure every guest feels welcomed and comfortable, with a particular focus on accommodating people with disabilities and those who have religious dietary restrictions. Assigned seating will facilitate the accurate delivery of suitable meals. During the Saturday church ceremony, reserved seating in the first few pews will be available for the closest family members. Ushers will be on hand to guide guests to their designated areas, considering any necessary accommodations. Rest assured that each guest will be seated next to their listed family members as indicated on their invitation, ensuring a cohesive and enjoyable experience for all. These arrangements aim to create an inclusive experience where all guests can fully participate and enjoy the celebration. Respectfully, for these reasons, guests are required to maintain their assigned seats.

Can I ask the photographer to capture a picture of me?

We have already made a list of people to take pictures for every occasion, so we kindly ask that you just enjoy yourself and have fun! We appreciate candid photos over produced ones, and our photographer will be capturing the spontaneous and joyful moments throughout the events. Thank you for understanding and helping us maintain the atmosphere we cherish.

How will you ensure a safe and enjoyable atmosphere at the wedding?

While the hotels and their employees prioritize cleanliness and hygiene, we also trust our guests to respect each other's boundaries and prioritize health. We kindly ask that anyone feeling unwell or experiencing symptoms of illness refrain from attending. Additionally, we encourage everyone to be vigilant about handwashing and to take necessary precautions to ensure their own well-being and that of others. Your understanding and cooperation in maintaining a safe and healthy environment are greatly appreciated.

What nearby attractions do you recommend for out-of-town guests looking to explore Chicago beyond the wedding festivities?

Chicago is the bride and groom's favorite city, and summertime Chi is the most beautiful place in the world.
Some nearby attractions you won't want to miss include exploring the iconic Magnificent Mile for shopping and dining, strolling along the beautiful Lake Michigan waterfront, and visiting the world-renowned Art Institute of Chicago for a dose of culture. For a taste of Chicago's famous cuisine, indulge in our favorite deep-dish pizza at Pequod's or try our favorite Italian Beef at Johnnie's Beef. For a pastrami sandwich that could you last you 2 meals, visit Manny's Cafeteria & Delicatessen. Consider catching a breathtaking view of the city skyline from the observation deck at the Sears Tower or enjoy an architecture boat tour on the Chicago River.

While you're here, make sure to head over to Navy Pier. Ride the Ferris wheel, hop on the wave swinger, and take as many boat rides on Lake Michigan as possible. Many places you'll visit are inspired by their first dates—Akhi first kissed Jess on the wave swinger and proposed to her in the Art Institute. Don't miss the Monadnock Building in the South Loop, the oldest skyscraper in the US, where Jess had her first internship. Akhi used to buy her flowers at Field & Florist and wait for her to be done with her shift so they could get sandwiches from Harry's Sandwich Shop, where Jess became known as a regular. If you have time, be sure to check out the couple's favorite restaurant, The Girl and The Goat, which inspired their wedding email in ways only a true culinary gem can. Jess showed Akhi the Harold Washington Library, the original place she wanted to get married, but given their ethnicities, it was impossible to keep the guest count under control. Lastly, visit Grant Park, where the bride and groom have attended every Lollapalooza since Jess's senior year in high school and Akhi's freshman year of college.
